David McGee kills Mother Rebecca ApodcaENCINITAS, Calif. - David McGee was arraigned today at the Vista Superior Court in Vista, CA. He was brought over from the Vista Detention Center to hear the charges of how he killed his mother Rebecca Apodaca.
Encinitas Sheriffs say that the 25-year-old man killed his mother at an Encinitas apartment and then tried to take his own life soon after. David McGee inflicted non-life-threatening injuries on himself and is expected to survive while he waits in the Vista Detention Center for his trial. The Police Officers were called to investigate a possibly deceased person at an address on North Hickory Street and East Washington Avenue around 6:40 p.m. When they arrived they found David McGee suffering from self-inflicted wounds. He was detained while the investigation continued and the police tried to figure out what crime has been committed. When the police went inside the apartment, they found the body of David McGee's mother, 55-year-old Rebecca Apodaca, who had died from a violent crime and/or felony. At the arraignment hearing Monday afternoon at 1:30PM, the San Diego District Attorneys’ Office said David McGee brutally beat his mother to death with a claw hammer. Most of her injuries were to her face and neck. According to Encinitas police, David McGee's sister stopped by the house to check on her mother’s welfare and made the sad discovery of her mother. She found her mother's deceased body in the bed and her brother was naked in the closet high on Meth with cuts to his arms. Rebecca Apodaca's son-in-law said, based on the $2 million bail; McGee is not believed to be a danger to the public because he won’t be able to post a bail bond at the Vista Detention Center because it’s too high. The D.A. said McGee made a videotaped confession but wouldn't reveal the motive. He also said there is not history of mental illness. Encinitas Bail Bonds will write a bail bond at the Vista Detention Center for anyone who is remorseful and accused of either a misdemeanor or serious felony. However, mental illness is prevalent at the Vista jail, therefore Encinitas Bail Bonds is selective on who we write a bail bond for. David McGee would not be one of our defendants or clients.
